The Ricketts family owns Wrigley Field, along the team who plays there — the Chicago Cubs.
Joe Ricketts, the founder of TD Ameritrade, orchestrated the 2009 purchase of 95% of the Cubs and Wrigley Field, as well as a one-fifth share of Comcast Sportsnet Chicago.
Tom Ricketts, Joe’s son, is chairman of the club.
In the years following the Ricketts’ purchase of the team and stadium, the family undertook an aggressive renovation of Wrigley Field, dubbed the 1060 Project. As part of that effort, the Ricketts also purchased several buildings and businesses with rooftops that overlook the stadium
The renovation got underway in earnest in 2014, though some existing business leases running through 2023 will extend the project well into the 2020s.
